How to print coloring pages
Our free coloring pages come in PDF and PNG. PDF is best for home printers; PNG is perfect for tablets and drawing apps. Use the steps below for sharp, clean results.
1. Download the file
- Use the download buttons on each page. Choose PDF for printing or PNG for digital coloring.
- Paper size: US printers default to US Letter; most other regions use A4.
2. Pick the right paper
Standard copier paper works, but thicker stock prevents bleed-through and feels better.
- Pencils & crayons - 80–100 gsm
- Water-based markers - 120–160 gsm
- Alcohol markers - 160–200 gsm or use a backing sheet
3. Printer settings
- Scale - set to Actual size (100%). Disable “fit to page” unless the outline is clipping.
- Orientation - portrait unless the preview shows a landscape layout.
- Quality - normal or high. Thin outlines look crisper on high.
- Color mode - black & white or grayscale to save ink. Our lines are pure black.
- Margins - default is fine. If your printer supports borderless, you can set margins to 0.
4. Preview before printing
Open print preview. If any edge is clipped, enable “fit to page” or reduce scale to 95–97%.
5. After printing
Trim edges if needed, punch holes, or bind pages into a simple booklet for kids.
6. PNG for tablets & apps
- Import the PNG into Procreate, Photoshop, or your favorite drawing app.
- Place the outline on the top layer and color on layers beneath for clean fills.
- Lock the outline layer to avoid accidental edits.
7. A4 vs US Letter
If prints look zoomed or slightly cropped, you might be using A4 artwork on Letter paper or vice versa. Switch paper size or use “fit to page.”
8. Troubleshooting
- Lines look faint - set quality to High; select “Black only” if available.
- Image is clipped - enable “fit to page” or set scale to 95–97%.
- PDF opens in browser - download and open in Acrobat or your system viewer.
- Color instead of black - switch to grayscale/black & white.
- Ink smudges - allow drying time; use better paper; avoid touching fresh prints.
9. Usage terms
All printables are free for personal and single-classroom use. Commercial redistribution is not allowed. See our License.
Tip - print one test page first to confirm margins and sharpness.
